Paris – May 3, 2004 — CANAL+ Group has acquired Moviesystem, the leading developer and operator of video-on-demand (VOD) services in France, as well as in several other European countries.

With more than 1,500 titles and the regular addition of new content, Moviesystem has Europe’s most extensive video-on-demand catalogue, featuring a wide range of documentaries, children’s programs, discovery shows, and other TV genres. The company currently holds VOD rights to content from over 70 production companies, including Pathé, EuropaCorp and members of France’s Independent Producers Guild (SPI). Many of these rights are exclusive.

Moviesystem markets its VOD services in France to subscribers with either ADSL television connections (such as France Telecom’s MaLigneTV and Monaco Telecom) or a PC and high-speed Internet access. The PC offer is marketed through the company’s NetCiné website and leading portals like Wanadoo, Club Internet, Neuf Telecom and Fnac.com.

With the acquisition of Moviesystem, CANAL+ Group has made a strong entry into the VOD market, which, alongside existing pay-television offerings, represents a new, highly promising outlet for films and TV programs.

The move also strengthens the Group’s presence in content delivery technologies and confirms its objectives in the fast-growing market for broadband services, following the recent launch of an innovative television via ADSL offer.

Lastly, the acquisition is in line with the Group’s new strategic redeployment and deepens its relations with the movie industry, which is a cornerstone of its business and intrinsically linked to the CANAL+ brand.

CANAL+ Group has especially high regard for the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation demonstrated by Maxime Japy and Emmanuel Montamat, Moviesystem’s founding Chief Executives. Working closely with the different Group units, they will continue to play an active role in developing the business.
